Working for years with colleagues and graduate students across campus, from Arts to Systems Design Engineering, Chris Eliasmith has just published his book How to Build a Brain - intending to share and advance methods for understanding our infinitely complex minds.

English PhD candidate wins SSHRC Storytellers challenge

Pursuing his PhD in game studies and media phenomenology, Steve Wilcox is looking at linguistic substructures of media—from web design to videogames. His video submission to the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council's (SSHRC) new initiative to showcase the work of post-secondary students' was one of five winners selected from 25 finalist presentations at Congress 2013.

Gamification 2013 at Stratford Campus this fall

Gamification refers to the application of game design in a range of non-gaming tasks to make them more fun, engaging and motivating. The Games Institute, a research centre based in Arts, is blazing a trail in the field of game studies. This October 2-4 the Gamification 2013 international conference will gather academics, students, industry partners and others at uWaterloo's Stratford Campus.

Tom Jenkins, the executive chairman and chief strategy officer at OpenText Corporation, is among the nine recipients of honorary doctorates presented during the University of Waterloo's spring convocation ceremonies this week.
