Arts researchers awarded over $2 million in new funding from SSHRC

This week the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) released results from its 2013 Insight Grant and Insight Development Grant competitions.  A total of 13 grants were awarded in Waterloo Arts, generating over $2 million in new research funding for the Faculty.  The SSHRC Insight Grant program provides support for up to five years for ongoing research programs.  The SSHRC Insight Development Grant focuses on shorter-term grants for emerging researchers and those moving in new research directions.  Arts researchers received grants in every category, with a particularly stro

Professor Geoff Fong's ITC Project finds India's tobacco laws have little impact

The International Tobacco Control Policy Evaluation Project (the ITC Project), lead by the Department of Psychology's Geoff Fong has again released findings, this time based on extensive research in India. Professor Fong said:

"Our study finds that although India has made a commitment to tobacco control, and a number of regulations have been passed that, on the face of it, seem strong, the reality is that the laws have had very little impact.

Professor Jim Walker named Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada

The Faculty of Arts congratulates Jim Walker of the Department of History for being named Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada, honouring his significant scholarship and teaching on human rights and race relations in Canada.
