Prepared… for anything!

Jud WhitesideWhen Jud Whiteside graduated from Waterloo's Political Science program, he was prepared for nothing, and yet prepared for everything. As retired Chairman and CEO of Miller Thompson (LLP), a full service law firm, Jud believes that the program gave him a foundation of knowledge that's applicable in every society. Jud says,

The program provided a good grounding in everyday society, since political science is present in every society.

Jud retired from his position as Chairman and CEO of Miller Thompson (LLP) in 2016 and accepted a position as Counsel to the Toronto office of the US law firm Dickinson Wright LLP.

Jud not only utilizes the knowledge he has gained in his activities at one of Canada's largest law firms, but also in his charitable activities. He is a member of Waterloo's Talent Trust Campaign and a former University of Waterloo Foundation board member. Jud has also agreed to serve as Chair of Southlake Regional Hospital Hospice campaign and serve on the Foundation Board of the Hospital. Jud's other memberships include Honorary Director, Canadian Professional Golfer's Association; President of the Canadian Cancer Society, South Central Ontario; and Founding Director of the York Technology Association.

While at Waterloo, Jud was an active campus recreation participant and a representative of St. Paul's University College on the intramural council for four years. In recognition of his contribution to uWaterloo Athletics, Jud was inducted to the Alumni Hall of Fame in October, 1992 and the Judson Whiteside Trophy recognizes students exhibiting leadership in campus recreation.

In his spare time Jud enjoys time with his family, is active in sports and loves to travel. His travels have taken him to New Zealand, Australia, England and Austria.
