Marlie Melo

BA '14 History

marlie meloBorn and raised in Cambridge, Ontario, Marlie Melo graduated from the University of Waterloo in ’14 with an Honours B.A. in History with a minor in International Relations. She lived in residence her first year, and for the remainder of her undergraduate career, commuted from home. While studying at UW, Marlie worked full-time as a retail manager, and coordinated fundraising campaigns for various charities including: House of Friendship, Save the Children, and Sick Kids Toronto. Marlie was also an Orientation Leader in 2013, welcoming new students and showcasing the amazing things the University of Waterloo has to offer.

Shortly after graduating from the University of Waterloo, Marlie moved to Ottawa, ON and completed her Master of Arts in International Affairs, with a specialization in International Organizations and Global Public Policy at the Norman Paterson School of International Affairs in 2016. While completing this degree, Marlie interned with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and the Government of Canada. 

Currently, Marlie is a Policy Analyst within the Government of Canada. Using her research, analytical, communication and critical thinking skills obtained from her Arts degree, she specifically works on Canada's international engagement on health in several multilateral fora including the G7, G20 and the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), which has provided her the opportunity to travel both domestically and internationally.
