Tuition Fees

The University of Waterloo charges tuition one term at a time. Fees are due prior to the start of term.

Fall Term – September to December;
Winter Term – January to April;
Spring Term – May to August.

Student fee bills are posted on Quest approximately one month prior to the start of lectures each term. Students are notified at their uwaterloo.ca e-mail address at that time.

Co-op Fees

Co-op fees are not directly related to specific work terms. They are not “placement fees” or “internship fees”. They represent the cost of running the co-op program, spread out over a specific number of academic terms.
Co-op and Work Report Marking Fees are charged to Co-op students for a prescribed number of academic terms, corresponding to their particular program. If a student is required to register for additional academic terms to complete degree requirements, we will remove the extra Co-op & Work Report Marking Fees.
Co-op students in AFM and SFM are exempt from paying the Co-op Fee and Work Report Marking Fee in terms 1A & 1B.

Additional Information for International Students:

All SAF program degrees require the completion of four to six co-op work terms. If you are a student studying on a VISA, please note that some employers may impose hiring requirements. These may include:

a provincial driver’s license
prior Canadian work experience
Canadian citizenship
or a strong desire to remain in Canada to work.

While there are many relevant co-op paid job opportunities available for students to apply to and many resources available to assist students with their job search strategies, employers ultimately make all co-op hiring decisions and we cannot guarantee placement.

Incidental Fees

Residence Fees

Residence fees for Campus Housing will be posted to your Quest account after September 1. Please note that this will be done after the due date for paying your fall fees. Ensure you are fees arranged for your tuition and program fees by the August deadline, and check back after September 1 to pay your residence fees.

Traditional-style residences (dorm) require a meal plan per term in residence. Fees for residences can be found on our Campus Housing website.

Financial Aid for Students Living in Canada

Students who are Canadian citizens, permanent residents or protected persons may be eligible to apply for financial aid through their provincial government. In Ontario, this is the Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP).

The types of funding available include loans, grants and bursaries. The amount of each type of funding is determined by the province and is based on many factors including, but not limited to:

your educational costs
your income and assets
your family income (e.g. parents or spouse)
family size

All government aid programs, including OSAP, are intended to supplement a student’s financial resources and expected contributions.
