SUMMARY:WCA-KPL Public Talk: A History of the Telescope (Ana Ennis)
CLASS:PUBLIC
DESCRIPTION:Astronomers today have access to telescopes that orbit Earth\,
or that\nhave extremely large mirrors\, allowing us to study the furthest\
ncorners of the Universe. In this month's KPL astronomy talk\, Dr. Ana\nEn
nis will discuss the foundational optics that led to the invention\nof the
telescope\, and in particular\, the stories of the people that\ncontribut
ed to it. From ancient civilizations to the current era\, we\nwill see how
the designs and functionalities of telescopes have\nevolved\, and how exa
ctly we came to have the amazing instruments that\nare available today.

SUMMARY:WCA-KPL Public Talk: Black Holes and Beyond (Lucy Pothier-Bogoslows
 ki)
CLASS:PUBLIC
DESCRIPTION:Black holes are massive objects from which even light cannot es
cape --\nso how can we \"see\" them? In this month's KPL astronomy talk\,
Lucy\nPothier-Bogoslowski  will discuss several observational techniques\
nand properties of black holes that allow us to observe them and their\nim
pact on their environments from small to large scales.

SUMMARY:Astronomy on Tap - Everett Patterson and Kiana Salehi
CLASS:PUBLIC
DESCRIPTION:At Astronomy on Tap this month\, we'll be hearing all about t
he\nscience of black holes from two experts studying these\nstructures. E
verett Patterson will tell us how astronomers and\ncosmologists reached o
ur modern understanding of black holes from\ntheir theoretical origins\, a
nd Kiana Salehi\, a member of the Event\nHorizon Telescope collaboration\
, will discuss what we can learn about\nour Universe from photographing a

SUMMARY:WCA-KPL Public talk: Probing Alien Skies (Lisa Dang)
CLASS:PUBLIC
DESCRIPTION:Among the diversity of exoplanets discovered in the last few de
cades\nare a particularly intriguing type called lava worlds. In this mont
h's\nKPL astronomy talk\, Dr. Lisa Dang will share how we find these\nscor
ching hot rocky planets\, and discuss how we can study them and\nwhat you
could experience if you were to visit a lava world.
