CLASS:PUBLIC
DESCRIPTION:This lecture will be delivered by UWaterloo Adjunct Professor a
nd VP\nof the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit\, Dr. Steven Rebellato.
This\nsession will explore how Generative AI chatbots\, like the one\ndeve
loped for the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit in collaboration\nwith t
he University of Waterloo\, are revolutionizing public health by\nimprovin
 g accessibility\, efficiency\, and service delivery. The lecture\nwill del
ve into an advanced evaluation framework assessing chatbot\nperformance\,
consistency\, and user experience\, while addressing\nchallenges like misi
nformation\, adaptability\, privacy and data\nintegrity. Join us to gain v
aluable insights into the integration of\ncutting-edge AI technologies in
public health and their implications\nfor equity and service improvement.

CLASS:PUBLIC
DESCRIPTION:The Interventional Neuropsychiatry Program at the University of
\nToronto has three pillars with a focus on novel and emerging\ntreatments
in the realms of: A) Pharmacology (e.g.\, IV ketamine\,\nnitrous oxide\,
 psychedelics)\; B) Brain stimulation (e.g.\, rTMS\, TI\,\nFES)\; C) Digita
l Interventions/Therapeutics. The research program aims\nto understand mec
hanisms behind treatment response with an emphasis on\ndigital data captur
e accompanied by application of AI/analytics. This\ntalk will provide an o
verview of research paradigms in this emerging\ndomain with a particular e

SUMMARY:Biomedical Engineering and Technology Research Day Keynote Address\
 nwith Kathryn Grandfield
CLASS:PUBLIC
DESCRIPTION:Uncovering the mechanisms of biomaterial-bone attachment is\nco
mplicated by the complex and three-dimensional hierarchical\nstructure of
human bone. Our work explores the structure and formation\nof bone and its
attachment to biomaterials with advanced microscopy\napproaches. This tal
 k will introduce a range of correlative\, 3D\, and\nreal-time high-resolut
ion approaches to probe both biomineralization\nand osseointegration inclu
ding electron tomography\, focused ion beam\nmicroscopy\, _in situ_ liquid
phase TEM\, and atom probe tomography.\nThese correlative microscopies pr
ovide a foundation for understanding\nthe structure and chemical nature of
inorganic and organic\nbiomaterials\, including shedding light on the tit
 anium-bone interface\,\ncollagen-mineral arrangement\, new approaches for
visualizing osteocyte\nnetworks\, and mineralization events in liquids. Th
ese platforms for\ncharacterization have broad applications across the fie
 ld of\nbiomedical engineering.
