Abstract: Animal populations, including fish, are more frequently experiencing chronic stressors due to human interference and this can be detrimental to health. Cortisol, the end product of the endocrine stress axis, plays a vital role in stress adaptation. In an effort to better understand the mechanisms of stress adaptation, my research uses fish model species to examine the molecular distribution and regulation of key components of the endocrine stress axis, including those that govern cortisol release, signaling, and deactivation.
