Master of Science (MSc) students without a major scholarship will receive an International Graduate Scholarship in the amount of $1,595 per term for two years. Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) students without a major scholarship will receive an International Graduate Scholarship in the amount of $3,190 per term for the first three years. Full-time international students (who were admitted from a Masters degree) will receive an additional year of this scholarship support for terms 10 through 12 (funded by University of Waterloo/faculty and supervisor). This scholarship is payable only to in-program students after their arrival and will assist in meeting the approximate per year expenditure of $34,000. However, students must maintain full-time enrolment and be in good academic standing (75%) to continue receiving this award. Students who are receiving external awards or sponsorships are ineligible.

As there are no other monies available to International students from the University of Waterloo you are responsible to make up the difference.

Citizen and Immigration Canada (CIC) officials will require that you demonstrate sufficient support to cover all costs when you apply for a Study Permit. Please consult the CIC website for further information on applying for a Study Permit to study in Canada.

If you obtain support from your government or an outside organization, the University Graduate Office requires proof in the form of an official letter, stating the amount awarded and how long this support is for, before they will accept an international student. A PhD program is four years and a MSc program is two years. All program regulations are available on our graduate studies website.
