Waterloo biologists discover a key regulator in the pacemakers of our brain and heart

Waterloo biologists have discovered how an outer shield over T-type channels change the electrochemical signaling of heart and brain cells.  Understanding how these shields work will help researchers eventually develop a new class of drugs for treating epilepsy, cardiovascular disease and cancer.

Recipient of the 2014 Excellence in Science Teaching Award - Josh Neufeld

Josh Neufeld has been chosen to receive the 2014 Excellence in Science Teaching Award (ESTA) from the Faculty of Science. Josh has also received the FEDS Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching Award and the Ontario Undergraduate Student Alliance (OUSA) Teaching Excellence Award.

Congratulations to biologist Matt van der Meer on receiving funding from the Ontario Research Infrastructure and Early Researcher Award Programs. The announcement recognizes Ontario’s strong support for fundamental and applied research at the University of Waterloo and Faculty of Science.
