Waterloo biologists model the big impacts of zebra mussels in Lake Simcoe

Zebra and quagga mussels, known collectively as dreissenid mussels, have changed the ecology of some of the largest lakes in the world, costing governments more than $7 billion in damage according to the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources.

Waterloo creates cutting-edge tool to help predict impact of invasive species

Invasive species cost us more in environmental, economic, and health-care related damages than all other natural disasters combined. Being able to predict how a species "fits" into an environment - the so-called species niche - can help managers prevent, predict, and manage the next big invasion.
