Congratulations to biology graduate student Brent Seuradge for winning this year’s $5,000 Davis Memorial Scholarship in Ecology.

Seuradge is currently a Master’s student studying microbial ecology in Professor Josh Neufeld’s lab. His research encompasses various areas of microbiology including environmental microbiology, microbial diversity and biogeography.

I’ve always had a strong appreciation for the natural world and the potential breadth of knowledge gained by studying its complexity,” says Seuradge. “This idea has ultimately shaped my enthusiasm and love of science.”

Seuradge is currently working on his Master’s degree and plans to continue in the field of ecology by either staying in academia or transitioning into industry based work.

The Davis Memorial Scholarship in Ecology, established in memory of Robert M. and Doreen M. Davis, is an annual award presented to outstanding graduate students at the University of Waterloo who work in the field of ecology.
