Biology doctoral candidate Nikhil George was awarded the Ambassador Award from the Canadian Society of Microbiologists.

The CSM Ambassador Award enables outstanding graduate students or early career postdocs to present research at one or more Canadian academic institutions and is valued up to $1500. The Ambassador is also invited to present their summary during the Council and Annual General Meetings the following year.

George is part of the Hug Research Group. He's examining viral diversity and virus-host interactions in municipal landfills. He is also aiming to identify new CRISPR-Cas systems from microbes in these sites.
