Unfortunately, the Ontario Universities Program in Field Biology is not running courses in summer 2021, due to ongoing risks and constraints arising from the COVID-19 pandemic.
A virtual field course is being run by York University, however, and registration is now open to students at other universities.
The course is: Urban Watershed Management and Biodiversity It will run *synchronously* from May 10th – June 21st, 2021, with lectures on M/W from 10am – 12pm, and labs on M/W from 2:30pm – 5:30pm. The 2021 course outline will be a slightly modified version of the 2020 course outline, which can be found here: York U Virtual Field Course Outline_2020
1. Students have to submit an online application to *YORK UNIVERSITY* for this course, and will be notified via email regarding the status of their application. Due to logistics, only students currently residing in Canada are permitted to take this course. Please note that here at UWaterloo, we do not require a field course for Biology degrees, so please answer this question honestly in the application to York.
This course is not being officially run the OUPFB. Students accepted into the course thus have to register as visiting students at York University, and pay the tuition fee to York University.
2. Apply to be a visiting student at York: Admission and Application Procedures for Visiting Students | Future Students | York University. To do this, you will need a letter of permission from University of Waterloo. Letter of Permission
Note that you must be in satisfactory standing or better to be eligible for a Letter of Permission: Undergraduate Studies Calendar | University of Waterloo (uwaterloo.ca). You will receive a CR for Biol 490A (or Biol 490B) if you achieve a grade of at least 60% in the course.
