SUMMARY:The Farcas Lab: Where Urology Meets Engineering
CLASS:PUBLIC
DESCRIPTION:[Farcas] \n\nJOIN US FOR AN EXCITING PRESENTATION THAT WILL INT
RODUCE YOU TO\nUROLOGY AND IGNITE YOUR PASSION FOR INNOVATION IN HEALTHCAR
E! \n\nDr. Monica Farcas is a Urologic Surgeon-Investigator and Entrepren
eur\nat St. Michael’s Hospital in Toronto\, who has also trained as an\n
engineer. Dr. Farcas’ expertise in urology allows her to observe and\nid
entify problems in clinical practice\, while her engineering\nbackground h
elps ideate solutions to those problems. She is able to\nseamlessly blend
and explore the two worlds in her lab\, the Farcas\nLab.\n\nIn The Farcas
Lab: Where Urology Meets Engineering\, Dr. Farcas will\nintroduce student
s to the field of urology and explain some of the\nanatomical and clinical
constraints and challenges faced in this\nspecialized field. She will the
n explain existing surgical devices\,\ntheir uses\, and how they have been
shaped by these constraints.\nFinally\, Dr. Farcas will highlight some of
the projects that her lab\nis currently working on\, the problems they ai
 m to solve\, and the\ncreativity behind them.\n\nFrom understanding urolog
y to designing cutting-edge medical devices\,\nthis talk will inspire you
to think beyond rigid boundaries and apply\nengineering principles to heal
thcare.\n\nABOUT THE SPEAKER\n\nDr. Monica Farcas is an Assistant Professo
r and Surgeon-Investigator\nin the Department of Surgery\, Division of Uro
logy\, at the University\nof Toronto. She is a surgeon at St. Michael’s
Hospital\nsubspecializing in the areas of laparoscopic and robotic surgery
\,\nendourology\, and renal transplantation. Dr. Farcas received her\nMast
er’s Degree in Engineering at McGill University and obtained her\nMD and
residency training in Urology at the University of Toronto. She\nthen com
pleted a two year Endourological Society clinical fellowship\nat St. Micha
el’s Hospital. Her research interests are in surgical\ninnovation and su
rgical device development as well as surgical\nsimulation.

SUMMARY:National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women
CLASS:PUBLIC
DESCRIPTION:Canada changed forever on December 6\, 1989 when 14 young women
were\nmurdered in a gender-based act of violence at l'École Polytechniqu
