Remediating Expand/collapse groups
Expand/collapse are now Block types in WCMS 3 and may not migrate successfully, although the content may. The expand/collapse blocks must be manually added with the corresponding content from WCMS 2.
- From the administration bar, select Workbench, and then select My Dashboard.
- Navigate to the Content List panel and select the page you wish to remediate.
- On the page, select Layout.
- In the same section as the existing expand/collapse content, select + Add block. From the list on the right, select Expand/collapse under Content.
- Add a block Title. The title will appear above the Expand/collapse block unless Display title is unchecked.
- Choose a Heading selector. Note: Headers in expand/collapse content blocks are used to follow web accessibility guidelines and will not change the appearance of the text.
- For more information about proper use of headers, visit the University of Waterloo Brand Formatting web page.
- Create an Expand/collapse group by selecting the plus icon. This will open a new tab.
- Copy and paste the Expandable title from WCMS 2 to the group Title field in WCMS 3. Change the revision state to Published from the Save as: drop-down menu.
- Note: Expand/collapse groups must be published to be visible.
- In the Layout tab, add blocks to replicate the content from corresponding the WCMS 2 group. Copy and paste the corresponding expand/collapse content from WCMS 3.
- See the What are blocks for more detailed instructions.
- Consider opening another tab with the WCMS 3 content to make copying easier.
- Save layout and close the Group layout page.
- Copy and paste the Expandable title from WCMS 2 to the group Title field in WCMS 3. Change the revision state to Published from the Save as: drop-down menu.
- In the Configure block in the Layout tab, enter the group title and select the desired group created in step #7, using the drop-down menu.
- To add additional groups, select Add expand/collapse group and repeat the steps above as needed.
- To rearrange the groups, use the crosshair icon on the left to drag them into the desired order.
- Select Add block.
- Remove the existing block(s) with the unformatted expanded content.
- Select Save layout.
Remediating special characters
Special characters within expand/collapse groups do not migrate correctly: ampersands (&), en dashes (–), and accented characters (â, ē, ï, etc.) may be replaced with an accented "A" or may not migrate at all. If a site contains expand/collapse groups, special characters outside these groups may not migrate properly (or at all) as well.
After a site is migrated, it is important to compare and remediate the text for each expand/collapse group and the rest of the text on the page. Ensure parity between the two versions by manually adding the missing symbols in WCMS 3 to match what is seen in WCMS 2.
Consider using a text comparison tool to help investigate the differences between WCMS 2 and WCMS 3.
