UWaterloo Canada Day Celebration 2017
Canada Day 2017 at the University of Waterloo was our biggest celebration yet!
On July 1st, 2017, our Canada Day celebration was bigger and better than ever as we celebrated the University’s 60th anniversary, Canada’s 150th anniversary of Confederation and the 50th anniversary of our Federation of Students.
The day kicked off with a fun-filled children's performance by Bobs & LoLo, followed by an energetic set by KW Glee's Hit Parade, welcoming a flyover by Waterloo Warbirds. As our celebration continued, Dwayne Gretzky, Canada's supergroup party band, took the OpenText live music stage to perform covers of Canadian songs. The highly anticipated performance of Canadian rock icon, Tom Cochrane with Red Rider, was enjoyed by over 65,000 guests. To cap off the night, an incredible fireworks display lit up the sky at our Canada Day Celebration.
A special Canada 150 cultural stage, hosted in partnership with the City of Waterloo, was added this year, featuring community cultural organizations and our very own University of Waterloo student performers including, UW Hip Hop and UW Balinese Gamelan Ensemble.
