Living in state of discontent (Calgary Sun)

If you don't trust government, join the club.

A new report that assesses Canadians' "democratic engagement" finds we're not a happy crew.

Our trust in our governments and public institutions is "on a steep decline," according to the report by the Institute of Wellbeing.

Almost half those surveyed aren't satisfied with how democracy works in Canada and almost 90% say federal government policies have not made their lives better.

Canada suffering from huge democratic deficit, report says

Ottawa – Canada is experiencing a huge democratic deficit with trust in Canadian government and public institutions on a steep decline, says a report on Democratic Engagement released today by the Institute of Wellbeing.

The report, which assesses Canadians' democratic engagement, looks at eight quality of life indicators and finds Canadians aren't satisfied with their democracy – which shows growing skepticism in political institutions and declining voter turnout rates.

Canadian political disconnect 'growing' (Toronto Star)

Ottawa – A new study, on the heels of public clamour over the suspended parliamentary session, claims Canadians are jaundiced about the state of democracy here.

The report, to be released Wednesday by the Institute of Wellbeing, says Canada is experiencing "a huge democratic deficit, with trust in Canadian government and public institutions on a steep decline."
