How well is Canada really doing? (Brighter Life)

CBC News reported yesterday on a confidential document that says the federal government has done too little to open up emerging economic markets for Canadian businesses. According to the CBC, the draft report reads: “The situation is stark: Canada’s trade and investment relations with new economies, leading with Asia, must deepen, and as a country we must become more relevant to our new partners.”

Young people stressed by uncertain economy, survey finds (The Star)

Economic uncertainty, underemployment and other financial concerns are taking a toll on young Canadians’ mental health, a survey for Sun Life Financial Canada found.

A surprising 90 per cent of people between 18 and 24 years of age feel excessive stress compared to 72 per cent of all adult Canadians, according to the Sun Life Canadian health Index study.

Economic growth no longer delivering the goods (FFWD Calgary News)

Well-being is being left behind in quest for more.

“Growth for the sake of growth doesn’t interest me.” Well, what’s this, another wacky environmentalist spouting nonsense? No, it’s actually Steve Williams, the CEO of Suncor, quoted on the cover of the September edition of Alberta Oil. While Mr. Williams was not really taking on the idea of growth, he does suggest that growth must have a purpose.
