EDITORIAL: N.S. leads way with ban on flavoured tobacco

In banning candy- and fruit-flavoured smokes that are clearly aimed at young people, the province has raised the ire of a Canadian tobacco heavyweight.

A new law that came into effect on Sunday prohibits the sale of most flavoured tobacco products, often marketed in bright, youthful packaging.

The change could mean fewer young people will take up a highly addictive habit that puts users at greater risk of various cancers, cardiovascular disease and early death.
