We will focus on networking at academic and professional conferences, work search strategies to increase your network and effective social media uses to actively engage with those in your network and more widely share your accomplishments.

Writing a cover-letter can feel annoying, daunting and time consuming! In this workshop we will find ways to make writing a cover-letter less painful. We will dissect what cover-letters are actually about, talk about challenges you might face and chat about strategies that help your writing process.
Reaching out and connecting with total strangers about career stuff can be totally nerve-wracking and awkward. In this workshop we will abandon traditional ideas of “networking” and talk about connecting to other people as people. We will explore reasons to connect with others, some of the challenges you might face (e.g. anxiety, nerves, imposter syndrome, etc.), and give you tips and connect you with resources for navigating talking to strangers about career stuff in a new way.

As an essential part of your job application, this document helps link your experiences, values, and skillsets to the role you’re applying to. In this workshop, you will learn strategies for structuring your cover letter, building a narrative, and making connections between yourself and the employer.
Through discussion and hands-on activities in this workshop, you will learn how to prepare an effective résumé by analyzing job descriptions, assessing the relevance of your transferable skills and articulating these transferable skills in an action-oriented way.
