The CAMJ annual holiday lunch

The Centre for Advanced Materials Joining (CAMJ) was treated to its annual holiday lunch at the Mandarin. Happy conversations were abound between students, professors and research partners. As is tradition with large holiday meals, the CAMJ fell asleep shortly after the below picture was taken, with visions of laser beams and joining methods dancing in their heads.

Prof. Gary B. Marquis gave a presentation about "High Frequency Mechanical Impact as a Means of Improving the Fatigue Strength of Welded Structures". In addition to his position as Professor of Mechanics of Materials in the Department of Applied Mechanics at Aalto University, Prof. Marquis is the Chairman of the International Institute of Welding (IIW), Technical Management Board

Prof. Y. Norman Zhou has been honoured with the CWA Fellowship Award for his exemplary reputation and service to advancements of welding sciences, technology application, research, education, publication of papers, books, journal articles and peer recognition. CAMJ vetted by IIW and CWA

Dr. Cécile MAYER, chief executive officer of International Institute of Welding (IIW) visited the Centre for Advanced Materials Joining (CAMJ) on March 8th, 2012 along with Dan Tadic, the Director of Canadian Welding Association (CWA).

The nano-team led by Professor Zhou and Professor Hu in the Centre for Advanced Materials Joining (CAMJ) has developed a facile method to fabricate titanium dioxide (TiO2) nanowire membranes for water treatment and environment remediation. These free-standing membranes are assembled by entangled TiO2 nanowires, with a diameter of 20 nanometres and a length up to a few hundred micrometers. These materials effectively remove various industrial pollutants, and pharmaceuticals. They are also successful in disinfection of different bacteria and viruses for high quality drinking water.
