Evaluation of halogen-free laminate materials

Although halogen-free laminates are not required by law, a number of companies from around the world have developed new materials to replace brominated FR-4. Many of these materials have excellent electrical and mechanical properties and should be examined with a focus on RIM's unique product requirements. Research would focus on (a) selecting a few materials for evaluation, (b) developing a test vehicle, and (c) performing a series of electrical, mechanical and reliability tests (CAF, IST, Drop) to determine the suitability of one or more of these materials for RIM product.
