Indigenous WIL programs are tailored to the unique needs of Indigenous students, and are typically organized around key principles and best practices for supporting Indigenous student success.
Students from Australia and the University of Victoria complete an Indigenous WIL exchange. Australian students come to Canada for an academic term and community internship; Canadian students visit Australia for a co-op work term.
Students complete a 120 hour internship with an Indigenous community or organization.
Students participating in the program are connected to local small businesses and non-profit organizations through the provision of wage subsidies.
You can view more relevant literature on Indigenous WIL by visiting WatCACE's WIL research portal.

The University of Waterloo acknowledges that much of our work takes place on the traditional territory of the Neutral, Anishinaabeg and Haudenosaunee peoples. Our main campus is situated on the Haldimand Tract, the land granted to the Six Nations that includes six miles on each side of the Grand River. Our active work toward reconciliation takes place across our campuses through research, learning, teaching, and community building, and is centralized within our Indigenous Initiatives Office.
