On May 27, the History department at the University of Waterloo and Balsillie School of International Affairs (BSIA) co-hosted the 'East Germany in the Cold War' conference at BSIA. Mark Kramer, Director of the Harvard Project on Cold War Studies, gave a thrilling seminar talk entitled "Cold War Myths and Realities: Understanding Today’s Threats and Challenges in Historical Perspective" on Monday, May 27. The talk took place from 12:00 pm to 1:30 pm, and lunch was provided.
Dr. Kramer is a long-time friend and colleague of Dr. Blight and Dr. Lang. They describe him as "a Cold War tsunami" and "savant of the Cold War." He edits the most important journal in the field, "The Journal of Cold War Studies," at Harvard. He is a tireless and relentless global traveler, speaks and reads every language of the former Warsaw Pact countries. Their view is that by the time Mark Kramer is through with them, they will be amazed at how much the Cold War speaks to their own research - whatever it may be.
