The Ontario AMC is a joint partnership between the University of Waterloo, McMaster University and Western University. Funded by the province of Ontario, the AMC works with small, medium and large industry partners across a diverse range of markets to accelerate innovation and to uphold Ontario as a leading manufacturing region.

The research assets at UWaterloo provide industry-friendly R&D support from conceptualization to implementation of novel products, production methods and processes. Access to world-class advanced manufacturing equipment and the technical expertise of over 200 researchers and technical specialists at UWaterloo allow project scalability on rapid industry timelines.

The AMC at UWaterloo is pleased to present an inaugural Showcase on April 23, 2019 of the advanced manufacturing capabilities and industrial partnership prospects. Members of the local industrial, academic and government communities are invited to join us for presentations of the four AMC assets at UWaterloo, targeted breakout sessions with lab representatives and networking opportunities.

AMC Research Assets at UWaterloo

Please see each drop down for a description of each asset within UWaterloo AMC. When registering for this event, you will be asked to select the two assets you are interested in engaging with and attending their breakout session.

Centre for Intelligent Antenna and Radio Systems (CIARS)

CIARS, a world-class research facility, supports transformative national and international industry collaborative activities in radio science and technology. CIARS offers unique prototyping, simulation, and measurement capabilities for integrated antenna and radio system technologies in the MHz to THz bands. CIARS current research targets 5G communication systems, Internet of Things (IoT) networks, next generation mobile satellite communications, advanced sensor devices and novel measurement techniques. Exploring unconventional approaches to meet future challenges in wireless communication, sensing, and imaging.

Multi-Scale Additive Manufacturing

MSAM is the most comprehensive university additive manufacturing (AM) facility in Canada. Through research and industry partnerships, MSAM develops next-generation materials, innovative products, advanced modeling and simulation tools, monitoring devices, control systems, quality assurance algorithms, and holistic characterization techniques.

RoboHub

RoboHub is a state-of-the-art research and testing facility with fixed-base, legged, aerial, wheeled, and maglev robots. Research in the RoboHub focuses on control, planning, perception, and human interaction challenges in heterogeneous multi-robot and human-robot teams. The RoboHub can simulate complex, real world environments across a range of fields, opening up new multidisciplinary avenues to explore the potential of practical and industrial robotic collaboration, adoption and implementation.

WatCAR Manufacturing

WatCAR Manufacturing comprises the Forming and Crash Lab, the Centre for Advanced Materials Joining, the Fatigue and Stress Analysis Lab, the Impact Mechanics and Material Characterization Group, the Precision Controls Lab and the Composites Research Group. The research groups collaboratively support product and process development in the automotive, aerospace, and defence industries, with the confidentiality and rapid turnaround times required by industry. These researchers offer expertise and equipment in advanced materials, forming, joining, computational modeling, performance testing, and cutting-edge production methods to promote lightweighting and production efficiency without compromising safety.
