In May 2025 we started looking for students interested in a club that aligns with our interests in better understanding the relationship between society, technology, and values.
What does the club look like? First, all students are welcome, no matter what department or faculty. Beyond that, we're not sure ☺️
- It could just be an extension of the CSTV Movie Night, but students get to pick the movies and lead discussions. CSTV attends and contributes.
- Maybe a discussion-focused group, with regular guests: profs, or maybe people from government, industry, charities, or NGOs with stories or lessons about technology and ethics.
- Perhaps we could start a UW focused podcast about technology and society?
- Activism-oriented: does Waterloo need to join the Design Justice Network as an active node? Are there other student-led activities we could help with?
- A book club? CSTV would be happy to facilitate that.
