Brightspace Innovation Award in Teaching and Learning

To view award criteria, guidelines, and deadlines, please visit the D2L Innovation Award website. The following award summary appears there.

Established in 2012, the D2L Innovation Award in Teaching and Learning is sponsored by D2L (Desire2Learn) and administered by the Society for Teaching and Learning in Higher Education (STLHE). It celebrates and recognizes up to five post-secondary educators each year for their innovative approaches that promote student-centred teaching and learning.

Applications are invited from individuals with a demonstrable record of innovation(s) in areas including pedagogical approaches, teaching methods, course design, curriculum development, assessment methods, and various tools or technologies that enhance learning and have had a significant impact on post-secondary education.

In previous years, the adjudicators for this award have adopted a broad interpretation of teaching and learning innovation and have recognized that innovative approaches can also be discipline specific. An approach in one discipline could be very innovative, yet at the same time be potentially less innovative in another.

Award recipients receive the following:

  • $1,200 for registration and travel to attend the D2L Fusion annual conference held in Las Vegas.
  • $1,000 for registration and travel to attend the Society for Teaching and Learning in Higher Education's (STLHE) Annual Conference
  • Two year membership in STLHE
