CANCELLED: Waterloo High Impact Practices (WHIP) Group Speed Networking Event

Date: Wednesday, February 14, 12:00-1:30 pm

Location: EV1 241

Facilitator: Tim Ireland – Librarian, Information Services and Resources

Workshop description

In honour of Valentine's Day, WHIP Group hosts its annual "speed dating" event. But instead of seeking romantic partners, our participants will seek possible collaborators for their High Impact teaching and learning activities. Whether you need an artist to help you with design work or a statistician to help you crunch the numbers, you'll come away from this fun, fast-paced session brimming with ideas and with connections who will help you make those ideas reality.

Bring business cards to distribute during the networking session.

A light lunch will be provided.

Please register for CTE740 [Session Number 11 Speed Networking] by February 5, 2018

We will be creating a handout with the list of participants with contact information so you can follow up with individuals you meet after the session.

If you are not familiar with High Impact Practices, please read on, and review the links embedded in the next paragraph before the Feb. 14 session.

High Impact Practices are those practices which, when done well, have been linked to higher GPAs, cognitive development, deeper learning practices, greater satisfaction and perceived learning (Kuh, 2008).   Kuh identified eight characteristics inherent in high quality high impact practices (Kuh& O’Donnell, 2013).  High impact results are all about high levels of engagement and interaction.

The WHIP Group is collective of Waterloo faculty and staff who support the use of High Impact Practices in teaching and learning. WHIP Group members meet for lunch a few times a year to share their successes, challenges, and tips for High Impact teaching and learning.

We look forward to seeing you there!
