In this session we will explore strategies to design teamwork/group work projects or activities successfully in your course. A few fundamental questions we will explore include:
- why are you using teamwork/group work in your course?
- what is the purpose of the group project/activity? (i.e. what do you want students to learn from it?)
- how much structure/direction is provided to students?
- how will students and groups be assessed and graded?
Answers to these questions are important for determining how to set up groups, the type of projects or activities, and how to design assessments in the course.
The Collaboration and Teamwork Community of Practice is co-organized by the Department of Knowledge Integration and Centre for Teaching Excellence (CTE). The purpose of the community of practice is to provide an opportunity for instructors – as well as those who study collaboration and teamwork -- to connect with their peers to share examples, experiences, ideas, resources and best practices around collaboration, teamwork and group work in education. This is the second meeting of this community of practice (CoP).
Registration is required. CTE has a new registration system called GoSignMeUp. Before you can register for a workshop, you need to create an account (one time only). Once you've created an account, you can register for this workshop.
Many of our workshops have waiting lists, so if you've registered but can't attend, please cancel your registration well in advance through the registration system, so that someone else can fill your spot.
