Course Redesign for Blended Learning (CTE6732) - Part 2

Monday, March 25, 2019 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm EDT (GMT -04:00)

Location: MC 2036

This workshop, comprising two 2-hour sessions (one on Monday, March 18 and 25, 2019), will introduce the principles of blended course design and provide opportunity and support for participants to redesign an existing course, or parts of a course, to a blended mode. Participants should already have taken Course Design Fundamentals or an equivalent course design workshop; for those who have not, online pre-work will be available to get you up to speed.

Blended Learning integrates thoughtfully structured online activities into face-to-face courses. The online learning activities can include quizzes, discussion forums, peer review, interaction with course materials, and more. These activities and resources can help prepare students for in-class activities; promote their understanding of challenging course concepts; assess their retention of course concepts and skills; and foster a sense of community within the course. When the integration is thoughtfully designed, students learn more effectively and have a higher satisfaction as compared to online or traditional, face-to-face courses (Garrison & Kanuka, 2004).
