Description: As instructors, we often consider what constitutes effective teaching. But in this workshop, we’ll return to the perspective of learners. We’ll ask: What constitutes effective learning? How does learning occur? What impacts the learning process? In response to these questions, we’ll reflect on our current conceptions of learning and gain insights from current research on student learning and its practical implications for teaching. Through activities, we’ll develop vocabulary for describing learning in different disciplines and discuss research-based teaching strategies that promote effective learning.
