Effective Lesson Plans (CTE1202)

Friday, October 11, 2019 9:30 am - 11:30 am EDT (GMT -04:00)
Location: MC 2036
Facilitator: Becky Anderson (CTE) and Allison Elgie (CTE)

Workshop description

Planning tutorials, labs, and guest lectures requires careful attention to goals, content, activities, and timing. In this workshop, you'll learn to streamline your lesson preparations and strengthen your teaching. Using a popular model of lesson planning called “BOPPPS,” you’ll learn to design lessons that align learning activities and assessments with learning outcomes. Together, we’ll analyse examples of successful lesson plans, and you'll begin to develop a lesson plan that is compatible with your teaching context and instructional style.

Pre-workshop activity

There is a required pre-workshop activity for this workshop which will take approximately 1.5 hours to complete. The activity is located in the Fundamentals of University Teaching course in Waterloo LEARN. Please follow the link to find the activity listed under "content" --> "CTE1202: Required Pre-Workshop Activity". Your lesson plan draft is due in the appropriate dropbox 7 days before the workshop.

Please print and bring a copy of your lesson plan draft to the workshop. You and your peers will be reviewing each others lesson plans.

If you cannot access the Fundamentals of University Teaching course in LEARN you will need to self-register for it. Please follow the directions on the Fundamentals self-registration webpage to add the course to your LEARN course list.

Please contact cte-grad@uwaterloo.ca if you experience any issues accessing this course after following the above instructions.

Registration

  • CTE has a new registration system called GoSignMeUp. Before you can register for a workshop, you need to create an account (one time only). Once you’ve created an account, you can register for this workshop.
  • Participants will receive an attendance credit towards the Fundamentals program if they arrive on time and stay until the end of the event.
  • Participants who do not complete the required pre-workshop activity by the due date will have their registration in the workshop cancelled.

Cancellations

Many of our workshops have waiting lists, so if you've registered but can't attend, please cancel your registration well in advance through the registration system, so that someone else can fill your spot.
