Description
Gamification, or game-based learning, is often understood as the implementation of game-based practices into a learning environment to motivate and engage learners. Elements such as badges, the accumulation of points, an overarching course narrative, and others, are meant to build and sustain engagement when implemented in a thoughtful manner. While much of this can be done in the classroom, there exists great potential in implementing gamification elements into the online course environment.
This workshop consists of two parts. Part one involves watching a short screencast and completing a few online activities before attending part two of this workshop in-person, where we will then work extensively with UW’s Learning Management System, LEARN, to discover how to embed gamification elements into your LEARN site. There are many features within LEARN that can be employed in conjunction with one another to create a gamified learning environment. By participating in this workshop, you will have the opportunity to learn about these features of LEARN, and then working within your LEARN course, implement these tools and consider their effect on student learning and engagement.

Cancellations
Many of our workshops have waiting lists, so if you've registered but can't attend, please cancel your registration well in advance through the registration system, so that someone else can fill your spot.
