Wednesday, September 16, 2020 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm EDT (GMT -04:00)

Location: Online

Description

This 1.5hr hands-on workshop will introduce TAs to LEARN (from Desire2Learn), our course management system for presenting course activities and resources in fall term courses. By the end of this session, TAs will be able to use the D2L environment to communicate with students, have basic knowledge of the tools available within D2L, and enter grades. TAs should be enrolled in the course they will be working in with the appropriate permissions, and should know the sorts of tasks that they will be asked to complete in that course to make best use of their time in the session.

This session will be offered remotely through Bongo Virtual Classrooms in LEARN. Registrants will receive instructions on how to access the course in LEARN on the morning of the session.

Prior to this workshop, TA’s are encouraged to explore the module Teaching Online: Basic Skills for TAs (CTE1406), in particular Unit 3: Using LEARN Tools as a TA. Undergraduate and graduate TA's can access the module through the Teaching Assistant Training LEARN site. If you are a graduate student participating in the Fundamentals of University Teaching program, you can also access the module through the Fundamentals LEARN site. This online module will introduce you to the online learning environment and strategies for being an effective TA for remote and online courses.
