The August New Faculty Teachings Days allow instructors to complete a variety of the workshops that form the core of our New Faculty offerings.

The full session descriptions and registration is available below. You may register for as many or as few as you feel you need. Each workshop must be registered for separately.

Workshop Descriptions and Registration Links

CTE9910This session provides an overview of learning and learners generally, and also more specifically at Waterloo. The information provided will allow you to better plan your teaching in light of learner characteristics, generally and at Waterloo.

CTE9906: In this workshop, we will discuss common issues related to the teaching environment and how they influence class dynamics. Some topics that will be covered are intersectionality, power and privilege, and bias and assumptions. Participants will also explore devising strategies to handle these issues with the goal of increasing learner motivation and engagement.

CTE6642: This workshop introduces the principles of aligned course design to instructors. By the end of the session, participants will have considered learning outcomes, assessments, teaching and learning activities and their alignment in disciplinary and logistical contexts.

CTE9912: In this session, we will examine how assessment decisions are made in the context of course objectives and constrained by class size and grading time allotted. We will address principles of feedback and evaluation of student work as well as practical implementation tips.

CTE9916: In this workshop, we will discuss the construction of your course outline.  What basics must be on your accessible outline in your Faculty, and what are the nice-to-haves? How do you achieve a outline "voice" while also making sure you've covered all your course outline basics?

Many of our workshops have waiting lists, so if you've registered but can't attend, please cancel your registration well in advance through the registration system, so that someone else can fill your spot.
