Tuesday, July 6, 2021 1:30 pm - 3:00 pm EDT (GMT -04:00)
Location: Online (Webex Meetings)
Facilitator: Lucy Hinton (CTE) and Amanda Doggett (CTE)

Workshop description

This interactive workshop will provide teaching assistants with the techniques and confidence to effectively deliver an engaging lesson when teaching synchronous (live) online sessions. You'll have the opportunity to practice your online teaching skills and learn tips and tools for engaging your students throughout the lesson. This session will be particularly helpful in preparing you for online microteaching sessions in the Fundamentals of University Teaching program.

Workshop delivery

This online module consists of:

  • a pre-workshop activity, in which you'll be asked to prepare a 2-minute lesson on a topic assigned to you. The facilitators will email you details about the activity and your lesson topic a few days before the workshop.
  • a live synchronous session in Webex Meetings, that takes place on Tuesday, July 6 from 1:30-3:00 p.m. The link to the Webex Meetings session will be sent to you by email in the registration confirmation email.

Please contact cte-grad@uwaterloo.ca if you experience any issues accessing this live session.

The University of Waterloo is committed to achieving barrier-free accessibility for persons with disabilities who are visiting, studying, or working at Waterloo. CTE’s online workshops are delivered through either WebEx, Microsoft Teams, or Bongo with the audio component available either as captioning or a transcript. CTE’s face-to-face workshops typically involve a mix of presentation and discussion-based activities, and we encourage a scent-free environment. We welcome accompanying assistants, interpreters, and note-takers. If you have questions concerning access, such as parking, building layouts, or obtaining workshop content in alternative formats, or wish to request accommodations for our programming, please let us know by emailing cte@uwaterloo.ca. Please note that some accommodations may require time to arrange.
