Title: Feedback that Feeds Forward: Using PebblePad workbooks to facilitate engagement with feedback and language development in a university pathway program

This session will demonstrate how PebblePad workbooks have been used to facilitate an 'assessment as learning' model that streamlines the purpose, timelines and mechanisms of feedback within the Bridge to Academic Success in English (BASE) program, a pathway program for international English language learners.
The approach taken is aimed at encouraging:
- active student engagement with feedback through capturing skill development and goal setting;
- instructor engagement with feedback and reflection on the quality of that feedback
- sustained language development through opportunities to feed progress forward into re-drafts and future assignments.
Structured templates in the PebblePad workbook guide students to self-assess their own skills, target specific areas of feedback, set learning goals, and ultimately provide evidence of the application of that feedback. This session will address the set-up of these workbooks within a shared workspace, the embedding of Google docs to facilitate a live peer review process, and the use of the numeric Capabilities feature to enable students to quantify skill development and competence adding a further dimension to self-assessment practices. Initial results from instructor focus groups and student responses to the use of PebblePad for this feedback process will be discussed.
