Wednesday, January 25, 2017 11:00 am - 12:30 pm EST (GMT -05:00)

Location: EV1 241         Notes: Open to faculty and staff (registration is required)

Description: At this month's session, Trevor Holmes, Senior Instructional Developer, Faculty Programs and Research, will share the work he and Shannon Dea, Philosophy and Women’s Studies, have conducted related to authentic assessment. An assessment is authentic if it invites learners to engage in disciplinary or “real world” practices. In addition to providing students with excellent practical training, authentic assessments can increase accessibility by reducing distractors that are irrelevant to the capacities being taught and learned. The focus of this session will be to explore how emphasizing authentic assessment in course design can support deeper alignment among intended learning outcomes, learning activities, assessments, and, program outcomes.

Facilitators: Veronica Brown (CTE) and Bob Sproule (School of Accounting and Finance)
