Overcoming Procrastination during Graduate School (15 min. research presentation followed by Q&A)
Ekin Eray, PhD candidate, Civil and Environmental Engineering

Procrastination is defined as the act of needlessly delaying tasks to the point of experiencing subjective discomfort and is a common problem among university students at both undergraduate and graduate levels (Solomon & Rothblum, 1984). In this presentation, we will discuss reasons and consequences of procrastination among graduate students and share research-based solutions for dealing with academic procrastination.

Fat, food, and feminism: Incorporating weight-based social justice frameworks into public health teachings (45 min. interactive workshop)
Amanda Raffoul, PhD candidate, School of Public Health and Health Systems

This interactive workshop aims to explore the integration of weight-based social justice frameworks into public health classrooms. Can weight-based social justice theories be successfully incorporated into public health teachings? And if so, what is best practice for this?

By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:
1. Compare and contrast ‘weight-centric’ and ‘weight-neutral’ approaches to health education.
2. Describe how weight-based social justice frameworks can be beneficial in public health education surrounding weight.
3. Implement strategies that incorporate weight-based social justice frameworks
into public health classrooms.
