The WHIP Group is collective of Waterloo faculty and staff who support the use of High Impact Practices in teaching and learning. WHIP Group members meet for lunch a few times a year to share their successes, challenges, and tips for High Impact teaching and learning.

Presenters:

John Garcia: Professor of Practice, Master of Public Health (MPH) program leader, and Associate Director of Professional Graduate Programs in the School of Public Health and Health Systems (SPHHS) at University of Waterloo (UW).

Katherine Lithgow: Senior Educational Developer, Integrative and Experiential Learning

About the Workshop:

SPHHS is committed to educational practices that contribute to student reflective learning that integrates lessons gained from academic courses, professional practice, and other experiences.  The School now plans for accreditation by the US-Based Council on Education for Public Health.

In this presentation, John and Katherine will outline how the SPHHS gained by mapping courses to MPH Foundational Knowledge and Competencies, updating the program to align with new requirements for accreditation, and work integrating a PebblePad-based MPH Foundational Knowledge and Competency Workbook throughout the program.  The Workbook facilitates student anticipation of learning, self-assessments of knowledge and skills, gathering evidence of academic and professional learning, and reflection and planning for future learning.  A brief presentation of the Workbook will be included and the presenters will engage in a question and answer session with participants, and a discussion on how workbooks similar to the MPH workbook might help with program reviews and curriculum updates. included and the presenters will engage in a question and answer session with participants, and a discussion on how workbooks similar to the MPH workbook might help with program reviews and curriculum updates.
