Waterloo High Impact Practices (WHIP) "Speed Dating" Networking Event (CTE740)

Tuesday, February 14, 2017 12:00 pm - 1:30 pm EST (GMT -05:00)

Location: EV1-221

Description: In honour of Valentine's Day, WHIP Group hosts its second "speed dating" event. But instead of seeking romantic partners, our participants will seek possible collaborators for their High Impact teaching and learning activities. Whether you need an artist to help you with design work or a statistician to help you crunch the numbers, you'll come away from this fun, fast-paced session brimming with ideas and with connections who will help you make those ideas reality.

A light lunch will be provided. Please register for CTE740 by Monday February 3rd, 2017 so we can plan accordingly.

If you are not familiar with High Impact Practices, please read on, and review the links embedded in the next paragraph before the Feb. 14th session.

High Impact Practices are those practices which, when done well, have been linked to higher GPAs, cognitive development, deeper learning practices, greater satisfaction and perceived learning (Kuh, 2008).   Kuh identified eight characteristics inherent in high quality high impact practices (Kuh& O’Donnell, 2013).  High impact results are all about high levels of engagement and interaction.

The WHIP Group is collective of Waterloo faculty and staff who support the use of High Impact Practices in teaching and learning. WHIP Group members meet for lunch a few times a year to share their successes, challenges, and tips for High Impact teaching and learning.

We look forward to seeing you there!
