Since Fall 2015, CTE and the Graduate Studies Office (GSO) have offered a series of workshops on graduate supervision practices, primarily for those seeking Approved Doctoral Dissertation Supervision (ADDS) Status. Our next offerings will be in September/October 2017 (one must attend both full days to receive credit for all six workshops). Typically these are held on Fridays early in the Fall and Winter terms.Titles are listed below.
Day One (TBA, 9:15 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.)
CTE 801 Supervision at Waterloo: the relevant policies and practices (Associate Dean, Graduate Studies Office)
CTE 802 Recruiting graduate students, matching research interests and honing questions, the research supervision life cycle. Includes breakout sessions for differing discipline paradigms. (Experienced faculty members, Associate Deans Graduate Studies from the Faculties)
CTE 803 Meeting with supervisees (Conflict Management and Human Rights Office)
Day Two (TBA, 9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.)
CTE 804 Guiding writing and research with ethics and integrity (Office of Research Ethics, Writing Centre, Academic Integrity Office)
CTE 805 Intercultural and gendered interaction: working with students and co-supervisors in the context of cultural and gender diversity (Equity Office, Centre for Teaching Excellence)
CTE 806 Next steps: Examining and career support/letter writing (Graduate Supervision Award winners)
