Videotaped microteaching session

Thursday, July 13, 2017 1:30 pm - 4:00 pm EDT (GMT -04:00)

A videotaped microteaching session is being run during this time slot; if you don't want to be videotaped, you can still participate in the session.

Steps to register for a microteaching session:

  1. Complete the Effective Lesson Plans (CTE202) workshop prior to signing up for your first microteaching session.
  2. Go to myhrinfo->Learning and Development-> Request Training Summary->Search by Course Number and type in CTE499. From here, select the session you wish to attend and register for it. Once registered, you will receive an automatic confirmation of your enrolment from myhr.
  3. You will then need to prepare your lesson plan using the Microteaching Lesson Plan and submit it to your session facilitator using the Waterloo LEARN "Fundamentals of University Teaching" website at least 7 days prior to the session. The facilitator will review your lesson plan and let you know if the lesson plan is acceptable or requires changes.

You can sign up for only one microteaching session at a time. Once you successfully complete one microteaching session, you can register for the next session following the same procedure.

About the videotaped microteaching session

Videotaped sessions follow the same format as our regular microteaching sessions. Many teaching experts consider videotaped microteaching, followed by self-review, to be an effective way for new instructors to develop their teaching skills. By viewing your teaching on video after the session, you will gain a better sense of your teaching style (both strengths and areas that can be developed) and mannerisms. To receive a copy of your lesson, bring a USB key to your microteaching session.
