Teaching and Learning Conference 2017: Important Notes for Participants and Presenters

For all Participants

  • Conference website: On the Conference website, you will find valuable information about the Conference, including the program, session descriptions, and session room numbers. 
  • Conference location: Science Teaching Complex (STC) (campus map)
  • Registration: Please come by the registration desk in the Main Commons of the Science Teaching Complex (on the main floor) to pick up your Conference materials.  If you opted to go paperless, you will receive a name badge and a program.  If you opted for paper, you will receive a name badge and a Conference booklet.
  • Coat rack: We are providing coat racks in the Main Commons at STC for coats, umbrellas, etc.  We encourage you to keep any valuables with you.
  • Lunch: A buffet lunch will be served at Federation Hall. Please wear your Conference badge to lunch. Coffee, tea, juice, and pop are included with your lunch.
  • Wine and cheese reception: This will be held in the Main Commons at STC, in the same location as the morning registration. Please wear your badge to the reception. Your beverage ticket will be tucked in the back.
  • Parking: You may park in H lot (near University Ave. West) (campus map).  Please note that parking is $10 for the day. VISA, Mastercard, and American Express will be accepted as payment. Instructions for parking at H lot can be found at the Parking Services website.
  • Elevators: There are elevators in 2 locations at STC.

For Presenters

  • Room and Computer Information:
    • Rooms 0010, 0020, 0040, 0050 and 0060 will have a desktop computer and dual screens for projection.
    • Room 2002 will have a laptop and projector screen.
    • We encourage you to bring your presentation on a USB stick and e-mail it to yourself as a backup. 
    • We encourage you to use the computer provided in the room.  If, however, you would like to use your own computer, there are VGA and HDMI connections available. MAC users are encouraged to supply their own adapters.
  • Technical Assistance: A volunteer in a red vest will be available to assist you to load your presentation onto the computer and to troubleshoot any issues during your presentation.
  • Workshops: For people giving workshops, a box with sticky notes and markers will be available in the room for your use.
  • Presentations: For people giving presentations, each session will have a Chair who will keep timing on track.  You may ask him/her for time cues.
  • Handouts: If you plan to provide handouts to your session participants, please note that you may have 30-60 people or so in your session, as there are approximately 325 people registered for the Conference and five or six concurrent sessions in a time slot.
  • Posters: The poster session will take place in the Main Commons at STC. 
    • You can set up your posters anytime between 12:30 and 4:15 pm. We will have poster boards set up indicating your poster title and authors. A volunteer in a red vest will available to assist you if needed. 
    • We ask that you are at your poster between 4:40 and 5:20 pm to talk to conference attendees, but you are welcome to stay at your poster until the end of the day if you wish.
