CPAMI Director Fakhri Karray has been elevated to IEEE Fellow.  According to the IEEE (the largest technical professional organization in the world), the Fellow grade is a distinction reserved for select IEEE members whose extraordinary accomplishments in any of the IEEE fields of interest are deemed fitting of this prestigious grade elevation.

The CPAMI co-sponsored 16th International Conference on Image Analysis and Recognition (ICIAR19) is held August 27-28-29 at the University of Waterloo Campus (New Engineering 7 building). With the participation of four distinguished keynote speakers and close to 100 technical contributions (oral and poster sessions),  the conference is dedicated this year to the memory of its co-founder the late Professor Mohamed Kamel. It is co-chaired by Prof. Karray, Prof. Campilho and Prof. Yu.

Dr. Andrew K.C. Wong (Distinguished Professor Emeritus and the co-Founding Director of the Centre of Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence: CPAMI) and his research team Dr. Antonio Sze-To and Dr. Peiyuan Zhou, members of CPAMI and of Systems Design Engineering at University of Waterloo, have developed a new Artificial Intelligence System, known as Pattern to Knowledge (P2K), which is able to discover deep knowledge from data.
