Welcome to the Centre for Pavement and Transportation Technology at the University of Waterloo

The transportation system of a country has the same importance that the arteries, veins and nerves have to the human body, and the health of this system, is reflected in the development of the country. We must therefore preserve and grow these networks to support the societal, economic and ecological needs for the future, and to follow the technological advances in the transportation industry.

Centre for Pavement and Transportation Technology (CPATT)

At the Centre for Pavement and Transportation Technology (CPATT), we strive to find solutions to help the industry and the transportation authorities in Canada to build more sustainable and resilient transportation infrastructure through the innovation in construction materials, structural design and asset management approaches. The following themes represent our current research portfolio:

  • Incorporating Sustainability into Pavement Design, Construction, Maintenance and Management

  • Climate Change Impacts on Long Life Infrastructure

  • Life Cycle Economic Analysis in Public and Private Sector Infrastructure

  • Smart Pavement Materials And Structures for the Road of the Future (Nanomaterials, Self-Healing Materials, Phase-Change Materials, Anti-oxidants, Solar Pavements, Lightweight Aggregates, ..)

  • Optimization of the Use of Recycled and Alternative Materials in Sustainable Infrastructure Systems

  • Advanced Testing Methods and Characterization Techniques of Infrastructure Construction Materials

CPATT is a partnership between universities, the public sector, and the private sector. Our board of directors, composed of experts from the academia, industry and transportation authorities, meets regularly to set the goals and define our research roadmap. We hope that you will find a lot of useful information about our research team and projects on our website and our newsletters. If you have any ideas or questions about our research, please don’t hesitate to let us know.
