Topics covered in this Peace and Conflict Studies course include:

  • historical connections between the discipline of engineering and warfare
  • understanding the engineering method and mindset
  • technological frontiers for peacebuilding

Taught by a Waterloo engineering grad and member of the university’s Science and Technology in Society Teaching Group, this course connects theory and practice through frequent guest speakers, engaging readings, and weekly in-class assignments.

Class alumni include Richard Yim (Co-founder) and Jared Baribeau (Systems Engineer) of Demine Robotics, a member of the Centre for Peace Advancement’s Epp Peace Incubator Program.
