CHE-Specific PhD Comprehensive Exam Requirements

PhD candidates in the Department of Chemical Engineering must successfully complete the PhD Comprehensive Exam milestone. The Faculty of Engineering provides detailed information about the PhD comprehensive exam milestone, the associated requirements and the process for booking your examination.

In addition to those administrative requirements, Chemical Engineering candidates are responsible for coordinating the time and date of the of the exam with the examining committee, including the Chair that has been assigned to your exam.

Scheduling your PhD Comprehensive Exam

  1. At least five weeks before you’d like to complete your exam, contact the Chemical Engineering Department’s Manager of Graduate Studies to be assigned a Chair for your comprehensive exam.
  2. Coordinate the date and time of the comprehensive exam with the examining committee, including the assigned Chair. Contact the Department Secretary to book the location.

Note: The assigned Chair is responsible for chairing your comprehensive exam or finding a suitable replacement. After finding an appropriate replacement and gaining approval of the change from the Chemical Engineering Department’s Associate Chair of Graduate Studies, the originally assigned Chair will inform you so that you may coordinte the date and time of your exam.

  1. Complete the PhD Comprehensive Examination Form.
  2. Complete the PhD Comprehensive Registration Form
  3. At least four weeks before your exam date, submit your completed PhD Comprehensive Examination Form to the Manager of Graduate Studies.
