Graduate students may choose from courses within the 500, 600 and 700 series, as explained below. Consult your degree requirements when choosing courses.
The 500-series courses provide
- technical electives for undergraduate students who want to specialize in a particular area, and
- background information for graduate students who lack specific knowledge.
600- and 700-series courses
Chemical Engineering's 600- and 700-series course offerings are subject to change and remain unconfirmed until they are posted in Schedule of Classes for Graduate Students. Normally, each 600- and 700-series course includes three hours of lectures per week for one term.
Some 700-level courses are reading courses, in which students in research-based programs learn through independent study under the supervision of an instructor. Up to five students may be enrolled in each reading course. To be eligible to take a reading course, you must have taken at least one graduate course towards your degree and have a minimum grade of 80% in the degree you are pursuing.
